Tuesday 20th June: Cromford Mill – Slinter Wood – Bonsall Way – Middleton Top – High Peak Trail – Cromford Canal (Footloose Extra)
Approx 7 miles – Start at 10.30am outside Arkwright’s Cafe at Cromford Mill (in the Mill Yard) – Not to be confused with Wheatcroft Wharf Cafe on opposite side of the road – Picnic lunch. – Walk leader Roger.
There is a fairly substantial incline during the first part of the walk as we head out of Slinter Wood to join the route to Middleton – Poles could be useful for parts of Slinter Wood if muddy – After that, however, much of the walk is mainly flat or downhill, as we approach and continue along the High Peak Trail towards the Cromford Canal – There is a choice of teashops at the end – There are toilets at the beginning, middle and end of the walk.
Directions- Coming from Nottingham, turn right off A6 at traffic lights at Cromford and go down Mill Rd, Cromford Mill (DE4 3RQ) is on the left after a short while – Limited free parking on the road outside the Mill – There is a car park at the Mill at £5 for 8 hours (takes cards or coins), or across the road at Cromford Wharf which has become expensive at £7 for the day (coins only) – There is cheaper parking at the nearby Cromford Railway station (£1.50 after 10am, cards or coins) – You can even travel by train, as the 08:54 all stations from Nottingham arrives at 10:01 – Hourly return service to Nottingham.
